Shadows Over Shackleton

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has mapped a crater near the south pole of the moon in detail never before seen.

The floor of Shackleton Crater never sees the sun. Now, moon explorers have discovered it is partially covered in water ice.

The sequences used in this video were created by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center using actual data from the orbiter’s altimeter, combined with photographic images.
