Pinning the Planets

Between all the social media streams and the good, old-fashioned World Wide Web, there are lots of ways to keep up with happenings on the high frontier.

Now there’s a new one, even easier than most. If you’re not already using it, Pinterest is the latest way to share stuff online Simply put, it lets you post images with a link, almost as easily as pinning a picture to a bulletin board. Until recently, content on Pinterest skewed heavily toward wedding dresses and kitchen crafts. The site’s own self description reads:

“Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.”

That was clearly written in the dimly-remembered days of yore (maybe 2010 or 2011). Because now its usership has exploded, and Pinterest’s pages are now pinned with just about everything you can imagine–including space exploration.

Here are few good boards you might want to follow:

And, of course, there’s this one, run by a shady outfit calling itself “Riding with Robots on the High Frontier”.

There are many more out there. If you know of a good one, let us all know!

I think it’s awesome to see Pinterest’s usership branching out. I’ll admit, I got involved b/c I needed a creative boost to my artistic repertoire (in fact, do I spy one of my pieces on that image of a pinboard?!), but this is a fabulous concept, especially for those of us who are captured visually first – rather than wading through dense science reading, the pictures entice us to click and find out what’s behind the beauty. Great to see you & others making use of the newest and coolest stuff!

Also: love that someecards image at the end. Very funny!
